Helpful Hints for Respiratory Support
Are you having trouble clearing your throat of mucus? Sinus, allergies, wheezing and asthma are abundant in our world, now more than ever. Environmental damage to our lungs is caused by a lot of factors like smoking, second hand smoke, hay fever and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, known as COPD. It’s all that bad mucus.
N-Acetyl L Cysteine by Now Foods, known as NAC is not only a precursor to Glutathione (What’s that — An amino acid that grabs those bad bugs), well known for mucus clearing and detoxification of foreign substances to our bodies, and has been used for 30 years to break up mucus. According to research by Dr. Richard Passwater, PhD, mucus has been known for the deadly disease of Cystic Fibrosis and NAC reduces Retroviral Infection. So for many people with oxygen tanks strapped to their bodies or with Nagging coughs, shortness of breath, continual hoarseness of voice, clearing the throat continuously, recurring sore throats and emphysema. A Mullen Lung Complex by Planetary Formulas, Botanical cascade of Chinese Herbs for the Lungs is a great product. Mullen Lung Complex is Mullen and Wild Cherry Bark in a complex. Various lung issues take their toll causing inflammation and bronchitis, resulting in the Obstruction of the airways. Help is on the way with the Ultimate Respiratory Cleanse by Natures Secret. Can you imagine how this helps? The latest news from Researches at the National Institute of Environmental Health found by measuring Lung Functions, that the dangerous effects come from air fresheners, toilet bowl deodorants (not the natural ones). Even mothballs contain a substance called 1,4 DCB. That’s a lethal ingredient, and exposure can cause long term side effects building up thru the years, especially those with Respiratory Health issues. Jarrow Formulas has Antioxidant Formula for just that kind of Protection.
How healthy are your Lungs? Run up 2 flights of stairs or walk 6 blocks without running out of breath-no stopping! Did you know that the Heart and Lungs work together per Chinese herbology. North American Herbs & Spice has Oregacyn Respiratory Support that contains a Wild Mountain Blend of Spices, Pretty Hot Stuff.
Interaction of certain foods can trigger respiratory stress. These foods include Dairy foods, White Rice, Food Additives especially those nasty food colorings, dyes, and to some extent shell fish. For air borne allergies, Food Science of Vermont has B15 Lozenges. And for those of you who like Tea, here’s some suggestions from Traditional Medicinals that can be added to your Respiratory Health Program. Throat Coat and Breath Easy, especially when taken before bedtime. The challenges of Asthma and children with Respiratory issues, which is spasm of bronchial tubes and the mucus in the lungs, could be triggered by anything the environment throws at us. Fumes, dust sensitive airways with the inflammation and of course food allergies. Did you know that certain drugs for Asthma can deplete all B vitamins, and those Oral Inhaled Steroids can increase the risk of Osteoporosis-no matter how rosy those TV commercials sound. Clear Lungs by Ridgecrest Herbals could help with Shortness of Breath, Wheezing and Tightness of Chest.
Now for the very young among us. Children can take Homepathics in liquid by Natra-Bio Allers Blends, such as Food Allergy Relief, Pollen/Hay fever, Grass, Pollen, Dairy, Animal Hair/Dander. They are easy to take. Just follow the directions.
And for our Pets, Green Foods Corporation, have Barley Cat and Barley Dog, all providing live enzymes, Chlorophyll for cleansing and helps nourish the Immune System. There are lots of answers to respiratory problems nutritionally, since once again, your Immune System, Genetics, Food Allergies and the Environment issues all play a part in this intricate drama of your Respiratory System.

Where Can I buy high quality Japanese or Chinese Green Tea?
I want to buy it for my mother for mothers day. She does not like any flavored kinds, just plain. It does not have to be in tea bags but it can. I am looking for a place locally in Columbus or for somewhere online. I want high quality (not cheap). Also, i am not sure if I can find a tea pot or pitcher that you steep the tea in and there is a strainer that catches the dregs as you pour it.
I’m not interested in Tea powder. I want tea bags or loose leaf.
Hi!
I’d try the following place:
http://www.japanesefoodshopping.com/
It looks like they specialize in Japanese products and they may have the green tea powder you need. Generally, if you want high quality you’ll buy powder and its accoutrements. Holder for powder, whisk, pot for water, cups, etc.
Check out and see if you can take Tea Ceremony classes from some Adult Ed classes. I live in San Diego and the Japan society holds them sometimes. And you should not miss the following show in Canton, it was fabulous here! And they had Japanese Tea ceremonies:

Here’s a good link for purchasing through the web:

Good Luck~
Does all green tea have the same health benefits?
I know that drinking four glasses of green tea a day can slow the aging process and speed up my metabolism. Does it have to be hot tea or can iced tea do the same? Also, does it have to be brewed from tea bags or can I get the same benefit from the power stuff you add to a bottle of water, or from the bottled stuff you can buy in the grocery store?
green tea is green tea
but if ur drinking some bottle green tea with lots of sugar, that kinda negates the purpose of taking it to aid in weight loss
but green tea is not some miracle supplement or anything
Detox Hepatitis C?
At one time, nutritionists and health experts believed that healthy people do not need to use detoxification procedures as long as they maintain and eat a well- balanced diet.
Doctos found that Hg was higher in sweat than in urine of exposed factory workers. Sweating can pose serious risks for unconditioned persons and especially those in pregnancy or some with vascular disease (although medical supervision may make dry sauna beneficial for many with cardiovascular disease). So here is our easy-to-make recipe for green tea, but this one tastes so good you’ll never guess how good it is for you! A great, healthy thirst-quencher for hot summer days.
1. Blood and Lymphatic - Strengthens and invigorates the blood and lymph fluids. 2.Cardiovascular - Greatly improves circulation in the body. 3.Liver and Gallbladder - Rejuvenates the liver. 4.Lungs - Dissolves and expels mucus buildup in the lungs. 5.Kidneys and Bladder - Flushes the kidneys/bladder by removing excess uric acid buildup. 6.Colon Conditioner - Helps to stimulate bowel movement. 7.Carbon - Removes all the toxic residues we unwisely put into our bodies.
Illegal drugs and alcohol are addicting. Records show that the younger you are when you experiment with illegal drugs or alcohol you are more prone to become an addict in the future.
Hepatitis C?
Hepatitis C is an infectious virus that is carried in the blood and harms the liver. About 240,000 Canadians are infected, many of whom are unaware that they even have it. The number of people with hepatitis C is increasing in Canada and around the world, primarily among those who share needles and other drug equipment. An estimated 5,000 Canadians - mostly young people - get this virus each year.
Alcoholism treatment and addiction treatment may need medically supervised detoxification to avoid possible life-threatening withdrawal symptoms such as seizures and convulsion. Once they are stabilized, they need help resolving psychological issues associated with their problem drinking.
Have you ever washed greasy dishes without hot water or dish soap? The dishes don’t get clean, do they? When toxic metals and chemical food additives get inside your body, it takes a strong “cleanser” to scrub your body clean from the inside out. However, the concepts associated with detox have been recognized and practized in traditional Chinese (and other Asian, e.g. Indian Ayurvedic medicine) society for at least 3,000 years.
It is also important to understand that detoxification do not work in isolation. It requires careful understanding of the different substances that will help the body recuperate and fight back diseases.
Feel as if it is done, by consciously claiming yourself to be, now, that you desire to be. Be a witness and see the happy end of your desire by consciously feeling your self expressing and possessing what you desire. The picture will get you through the interval of time that it takes for the picture to unfold. 5. What’s the natural time line for the state you wish to be, not the anxious conditioned response of instant gratification of yesterday.
Although the hepatitis C virus has been around for a long time, it was only identified in 1989. It causes inflammation of the liver, which often progresses to cirrhosis (scarring that makes it difficult for the liver to function normally). Of the estimated 5,000 people that are newly infected each year, up to 70 percent experience no symptoms. For some, symptoms may not show up for 20 or 30 years. In the meantime, they may, unknowingly, be infecting others. That is why it is important to know if you are at risk and how to take preventative action. If you think you have hepatitis C, or that you may be at risk, visit your doctor and ask for the simple blood test for this disease. For more information, contact a health care professional, and visit Health Canada’s Web site at www.healthcanada.ca/hepc.
This is where a person experiences the complete and abrupt discontinued of all addictive drugs or anything else on which they have become dependent. This type of drug and alcohol rehab often results in something called withdrawal that is often very unpleasant with side effects including vomiting, hot and cold flashes, hallucinations, paranoia, insomnia and other uncomfortable and sometimes frightening effects.
There has been a lot in the news lately about the amazing healing properties of turmeric, a free-radical-fighting antioxidant-rich curry spice that has been hailed as a defense against both cancer and Alzheimer’s. It is always safer just to replace any old fillings with new ones which are guaranteed to contain no heavy metals.
Detox (detoxification) is a term that’s came into popular use in the last decade or so but only within the realm of alternative or holistic Western medicine. Detox Drugs from your body and live a healthier life
Vegetables are one of the best detoxifying agents. Hence, it is best to create a meal plan that has no less than 50% leafy, green vegetables.

Should you Drink Caffeine Free Green Tea
A tea isn’t completely devoid of the extra kick if it states that it is caffeine free. Not all of the caffeine can be taken out by the decaffeinating process only most of it. As with any other type of tea, green tea naturally contains caffeine. It is a relatively easy process to remove the caffeine from your tea, but there is a little more to it than you might think.
Caffeinated or Decaffeinated?
Start off with some background. The well-known black tea, oolong tea, green tea and white tea are just a few of several types of tea. The most caffeine is found in black tea, while green tea is in the middle and white tea has the least. Coffee contains more caffeine than tea. One half or a third of the caffeine in coffee is found in a cup of tea.
It is rather surprising when you consider some general facts about tea plants. Caffeine will be stronger the smaller the tea leaf. A higher caffeine content is also in the tea leaves that are fermented longer. However, according to some sources the health benefits of green tea is ruined by the decaffeination process. So while you may be able to find comfort in a warm cup of green tea that is caffeine free it is a no-win situation.
You will want caffeine free if you have a problem with caffeine. Caffeine green tea is not completely devoid of caffeine, so you should keep this in mind if you have a severe reaction to any amount of caffeine. Which means you should probably stay away from teas altogether.
If you can even drink caffeine free green tea then herbal infusions may be an option. These do not contain any tea whatsoever despite the being mislabeled as teas. Herbs or flowers are often contained in these products and can be brewed in tea bags or balls just like teas. Chamomile is an example of the alternate ingredients included in herbal infusion which is a type of flower.
Caffeine green tea is a great choice if you are trying to limit your caffeine intake. The health benefit of green tea generally outweigh the negatives of a little bit of caffeine when you look at the big picture.

The Basics on Vitamins for Hair Loss
Hair loss is caused by a wide variety of factors. The treatment of this condition is still mostly an art; however, the list of options for treatment is improving. The application of vitamins for controlling this, or even the use of vitamins for reversing hair loss, is becoming more acceptable.
Using Vitamins for Hair Loss
The primary kinds of vitamins used for this are those considered antioxidants. Vitamin A is an antioxidant that can help produce healthy sebum in the scalp, while vitamin C is also an antioxidant that helps maintain general skin & hair health. Vitamin C is available in common foods such as citrus fruits, strawberries, kiwi, cantaloupe, pineapple, tomatoes, green peppers, potatoes and dark green vegetables and, therefore, should be a natural inclusion in your suite of vitamins used for hair loss.
Vitamin E is also an antioxidant that enhances scalp circulation, however, it can raise blood pressure and reduce blood clotting. If you are taking high blood pressure medication or anticoagulants you should check with your doctor before taking Vitamin E for hair loss. An alternative to Vitamin E is Niacin (Vitamin B3). This vitamin also promotes scalp circulation, however, there are some slight side effects that have been documented that may reduce your use of this vitamin for treating loss of hair.
Not all vitamins are called vitamins and biotin is one such example, and as it aids in producing keratin, it may actually help prevent graying and loss of hair. Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5) also may prevent graying and loss of hair.
Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 are both recommended for preventing hair loss and, therefore, should be used in your application of vitamins for loss of hair treatment.
Treating Hair Loss with Natural Products
In addition to applying vitamins for this, there are additional natural remedies. For instance Ginkgo biloba is a very popular herbal remedy that some believe delivers more nutrients to the hair follicles and so promotes hair re-growth. Although not a vitamin treatment for hair loss, shou wu, is an ancient Chinese herb that has been used for centuries for hair loss and baldness. It is frequently available in both tea and capsule form and is one of the main ingredients found in many commercial remedies for the treatment of this condition.
Two other natural remedies are popular. Saw palmetto has the ability to protect the prostrate and can slow loss of hair down as well as re-grow it. Finally, it is well known that the chemical DHT attacks the hair follicle and causes hair loss in males and sometimes in women. It is, however, not known that the stinging nettle blocks the conversion of testosterone into DHT. This natural remedy can be purchased in both pill and capsule form. In conclusion, using a combination of a vitamin treatment for hair loss and other natural remedies, is becoming a more acceptable form of alternative medicine as vitamins for loss of hair is itself, becoming better documented and as a result, is regarded as safe.

The Difference Between Decaffeinated and Regular Green Tea
Is Decaffeinated Green Tea Less Beneficial Than Regular Green Tea?
Decaffeinated green tea has the main purpose of giving people the antioxidants and other health benefits of green tea without caffeine. Many think it is not regular green tea since it is decaffeinated, they thing they won’t get the same amount of benefits and components found in the regular green tea however, this isn’t true. The same amount of EGCG has been found in decaffeinated green tea compared to regular green tea and you can even check the product listing before purchasing if you want.
For such products as decaffeinated green tea there are two types of decaffeinating methods used. One of these uses ethyl acetate solvent that retains thirty percent of the polyphenols that are healthy and beneficial. The more natural process uses water and carbon dioxide. Another way that is used quite often is for the drinker to decaffeinate the tea since many don’t want caffeine in their tea.
Anywhere from fifteen to thirty mg of caffeine is in a cup of regular green tea. This is actually necessary to provide the bitterness of green tea, although it is not appreciated by some. One cup of green tea contains enough caffeine to produce stimulant effects to the central nervous system.
By completing a very simple process it is possible to naturally remove the caffeine yourself. For about 45 seconds in hot water you should steep the tea, then pour off the liquid. Then add more hot water and for a second time pour off the liquid.
Then as you would normally do for a cup of tea you should add more hot water and steep. The first infusion of water will removed about eighty percent of the caffeine, so the second time through there are only small amounts of caffeine left. There are many positive benefits to decaffeinating your tea, the major one is that you don’t feel the affects that caffeine normal produces such as nervousness or fidgetting.

Can Green Tea Prevent Clogged Arteries?
Over the last few years, green tea has garnered much attention for the possibility that it has many health benefits. Green tea has been used in Asian cultures for centuries to prevent and treat all sorts of diseases. This, coupled with the lower incidence of many serious diseases in Asian cultures, has led researchers to seriously study the health benefits of green tea.
One of the areas where green tea may have real health benefits is in preventing and treating heart disease. For example, Japanese men have one of the lowest incidences of heart disease in the world, and the Japanese are some of the most faithful drinkers of green tea; often consuming 8-10 cups per day. This information is even more compelling when you consider that nearly 75% of Japanese men smoke.
Green tea has been shown to be effective in lowering LDL cholesterol. In addition, it inhibits the formation of abnormal blood clots. Blood clots, or thrombosis, are the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes. You may find doctors beginning to prescribe green tea in addition to exercise, dietary changes and medications for lowering cholesterol.
In addition to its ability to lower cholesterol and inhibit blood clots, it also appears that the polyphenols in tea prevent the oxidation of low density lipoproteins (ldls). This is the substance that causes arterial plaque. This plaque sticks to your arteries, restricting blood flow to your heart (artherosclerosis). The plaque can also cause blood clots to form. Drinking green tea seems to prevent the buildup and reduce the risk of getting blood clots, too.
There have been a number of studies that have supported the idea that green tea is healthy for the heart. A study from the Center for Preventive Medicine at Kyushu University in Japan showed that among 302 men and 210 women, there was a significant difference in the level of atherosclerosis between the male participants who drank green tea and those who did not.*
The difference was not significant in women. The difference was noticeable in participants who drank as little as 2-3 cups per day, but was even more noticeable in those who drank 4 or more cups per day. This study concluded that green tea may be effective at preventing atherosclerosis, at least in men.
In addition to its preventive properties, there is also evidence that green tea may help patients who already have heart disease. A study from Harvard Medical School showed that tea drinkers among heart attack patients might survive longer than those who drink something else.
In this study, participants who drank at least 14 cups of tea per week were 44 percent less likely to die than those who didn’t drink tea; moderate tea drinkers (those who consumed fewer than 14 cups per week) were 28 percent less likely to die for up to four years after than those who didn’t drink tea.
Even the Journal of the American Heart Association has come on board. In 2001, they reported that consumption of green tea is likely to be beneficial to patients with heart disease. And, the Journal of Nutrition reported in 2003 that green tea was known to protect against heart disease and lower cholesterol.
Of course, the research will continue, and we will learn more about the benefits of green tea for heart disease and other health issues. One thing seems for sure; green tea does have healthy benefits, primarily due to its powerful anti-oxidants.
Anti-oxidants are one of our bodies’ best defense mechanisms because they fight free radicals that are created during the process of converting the food we eat into energy. Left unchecked, free radicals damage our cells and DNA. The cell and DNA damage caused by free radicals cause us to age more quickly, weaken our immune system and make us more susceptible to a host of serious diseases, including cancer.
But, anti-oxidants combat these free radicals, ridding our bodies of them.
Fruits and vegetables, as well as green tea are good anti-oxidant sources, and can help us fight free radicals regularly if we make them a part of our daily life.
It’s important to ensure that if you’re drinking tea for your health that it is green tea rather than traditional black tea. While black tea is a healthy beverage, it is not as healthy as green tea. This is because black tea goes through a fermentation process that changes the anti-oxidants from their original state. When this happens, some of the health benefits are lost.
So, drink up. Though there is more research to be done it does seem certain that drinking green tea is good for you. With just a few cups of this delicious beverage each day, you may be extending your life and making it healthier, too!

The Weight Loss Benefit of Green Tea
For 4,000 years, Asians have regarded green tea as more than just a beverage. It was used as herbal medicine and treatment for everything from headaches to depressions and even to weight loss.
Researches have been conducted over the last few years to identify what compound present in green tea makes it a potent health drink. The scientists have found that the tea contains several antioxidants which are responsible for many of green tea’s health benefits, including a weight loss benefit.
A research study by American and Swiss scientists on the weight loss benefits of green tea was concluded and the results of which were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Urology. During the course of their study, they have found that green tea contains certain compounds that contribute to losing weight.
Lead researcher, D. Abdul Dulloo said in a press release that there are only two ways to achieve weight loss - either reduce energy intake or increase energy expenditure. Green tea it seems, has compounds that can increase the body’s normal metabolism rate which is where it gets its weight loss benefit.
At the University of Geneva, where the study was conducted, Dr. Dulloo and his colleagues experimented on ten healthy young men. They theorized that the main contributor to green tea’s helping remove those extra pounds is its caffeine content. To test this hypothesis they placed the study’s participants on a typical “Western” diet which is about forty percent fat, forty-seven percent carbohydrates, and thirteen percent protein.
Thrice everyday, the researchers measured their subjects’ energy expenditure (the measurement used in determining the number of calories burned in 24 hours) and monitored their respiration quotient to find out how well they utilized their carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.
When they interpreted the data they collected, they found out that the men receiving regular dosages of green tea extract showed a significant increase in their 24-hour energy expenditure and a reduction in their respiration quotient (which means that more fat is burned, thereby achieving maximum weight loss). On the other hand, those men who were only given caffeine or placebo with every meal showed only minimal increases in their metabolism rates.
The scientists construed that the substance catechin polyphenol present in green tea adds to its weight loss benefit. These substances may alter how the body uses the hormone norepinephrine which is responsible for increasing the metabolism rate, thus leading to weight loss.
In their conclusion, the scientists inferred that green tea owes its weight loss benefit to the presence of antioxidants and the substance catechin polyphenol. These substances help decrease fat and calorie burning leading to the lose of those extra pounds.
